Two Bad Apples

bronze sculpture of two boys stealing apples from the neighbor's apple orchard by John Bennett, Texas State Artist 2010.

These two bad apples are stealing from their neighbor’s apple tree. The boy on the fence is the instigator with a slingshot in his back pocket, both eyes alert for trouble, one leg over the fence, a quick hop to escape, a comforting hand on his hapless chum’s back. The other boy’s the dupe, both hands on the evidence in his own cowboy hat, jammed against the fence, both eyes distracted when the orchard owner surely shows up.
